Who dat chick: Cara Delevingne

Who dat CHickI have clearly been stuck under a rock because I only just come under the spell of the it-girl model Cara Delevingne. My friend Pam, had told me about her because clearly she is more up to date than me. I think I only truly noticed her as Rihanna’s model friend. However, ever since the Met Gala last week I have become obsessed with this model’s style. Let me be honest I am just obsessed with her.

I don’t think you can truly call her fashion sense grunge but it is very eclectic and specific.  It is like grunge with an urban hipster edge. I love the fact that she barely wears dresses unless its on the red carpet or if she is modelling them in fashion shows. I love that she wears everything with caps and beanies.  I guess we now, know where Rihanna got her inspiration. I love the way she mixes and matches with leggings and jeans. Nothing is ever the same with Cara’s street style and that is what makes her so cool. There is an edge yet a sense of humour about this girl.

Her red carpet looks are sexy, bold and sultry. She looked absolutely amazing at the Met Gala and out did herself at the Great Gatsby Cannes premiere earlier this week.

Her personality is her best asset ,I must admit. She is very strange but a funny strange and I love people like that. Awkward people are so endearing. See for yourself in this video with the lovely Jordan Dunn.

Well this is my take and  the beginning of a love affair with this chick. As I said, I am obsessed with this chick. She is just too cool!!!

Lots of ❤

~Undermine~

I am not the biggest fan of country music but I must say the ABC show Nashville has sort of converted me. I recently, downloaded the soundtrack and I just can’t seem to get over the song “Undermine”. There is something so raw and truthful about it. I love the radio and acoustic versions. This song for me just puts a lot of things into perspective. Here are the lyrics:

Sometimes good intentions
Don’t come across so well..

Get me analyzing everything that
aint’ worth thinking ’bout
Just cause I ain’t lived through,
The same hand that was dealt to you
Doesn’t make me any less
Or make any more of you.

I wouldn’t trade my best day.
So you could validate
All your fears.

And if I’ve only got one shot
Won’t waste it on a shadow box
I’ll stand right here

Chorus:
It’s all talk, talk, talk
Talkin’ in the wind
It only slows you down
If you start listenin’
And it’s a whole lot harder to shine, Than undermine
Yeah, undermine

First mile is always harder
When you’re leaving what you know
Won’t blame you if you stay here
Waving to me as I go
Always wished the best for you
Thought that you would see me through my wildest dreams
Yeah, the ones you thought I’d never make

Still, you would trade your best day
Just to have your way
All these years
And if you only had one shot
Maybe all this talk
Would disappear

Repeat Chorus

It’s a whole lot harder to shine
Yeah, it’s a whole lite harder to shine, Than undermine
Yeah, undermine

Sometimes good intentions
Don’t come across so well…

well these are my deep 2 cents

Punk Chaos to Couture: Met Gala Review

I am a bit late with my review of the 2013 Met Gala but here we are. I must say that this was not the easiest theme for people to dress up for and it showed in what people decided to wear. There were too many misses and not enough hits . Many people just seemed to disregard the theme completely or either went too overboard with the theme(I am talking to you Miley Cyrus).

I don’t want to really mention her but I must just get it out of the way but Kim Kardashian should have stayed at home. If any Kardashian should have been there it should have been Kourtney. She is hands-down the best dressed sister and knocks out Kim and Khloe time and time again. But unfortunately we were graced with Kim’s presence. The dress did nothing for this women. I don’t want to get started on the matching gloves and shoes. Let’s just leave this outfit in doldrums of fashion history.

The best dressed were my usual suspects: Blake Lively, Miranda Kerr, Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart.. I loved the way Kate Beckinsale and Dakota Fanning looked but my ultimate fashionista was this new or maybe It model Cara Delevingne. I don’t know much about either than she is a close friend of Rihanna and Rita Ora. I thought she just looked incredible from head to toe.

The people who should have stayed at home were Gwenyth Paltrow, Heidi Klum and the Olsen twins. I applaud the effort that was made by Nicole Richie , Elizabeth Banks and Jennifer Lawrence. Beyonce would have been on my best dressed but she should have really left the shoes at home.

As I said the theme was very hard and many people and their stylists did their own thing. However, I was really missing my couples action. No Robert Pattison, Jay-Z or Justin Timberlake. Its clear that it was a ladies night . Oh well, lets hope next year is better and the Vogue and Met Gala pick an easier theme.

well these are my 2 cents

Women can play nice….well sometimes

I must admit that I am not the biggest fan of women and their tendencies. However, this week I had some amazing conversations with my friends and acquaintances. I usually get most my advice ,especially about boys, from my brothers and male friends and in most cases they are right. It was funny that in this sticky situation I have found myself in that my fellow women saw what this issue was. I have been wondering the problem for the past two months. I was so happy to have these conversation with these women. I must admit that some of the advice varied but it put everything into perspective.

These lovely chats made me remember something that Beyonce said in her awesome HBO documentary “Life is but a Dream”. She said that I love my husband but nothing is more thought provoking and healing than having an conversation with a women that gets you. Someone who is your soul sister as my friend Pam would say. The conversations that I have been having lately at school and in my other friendships especially with black women have been interesting and thought provoking. Will I take their advice maybe but it is nice to know that there are some sensible conversations that we can have without putting each other down.

I love that type of relationship and it sucks that we women tend to compete instead of co-operating with each other. In an ideal world we would be each other soul sisters but “The Real Housewives…” shows and the Basketball Wives illustrate how we ultimately treat each. However, I was happy that I was able to have these heart to hearts with these women and wish to have more.

These are my two cents

She is back: Rihanna’s Return to Fashion Brilliance

It is no secret that I am a huge Rihanna fan and I must admit that I have been critical about her fashion sense. I happy to say ,as a fashion lover and a Rihanna fan,  that she is back on her A-game similar to that of 2007  and 2008. I don’t know maybe she found a new stylist or realised that simplicity is best. I also appreciated Rihanna’s style for its simplicity, elegance and amazing use of colour on the red carpet. Her street style is just as impressive. It is urban at times, simple and elegant in most cases. I love her use of colour in particular and how her musical inspirations come through her fashion. I believe that she  dresses this way because she is not looking for attention in her fashion and she does not  need to take risks because she did that in those ridiculous “red hair days”. I appreciate the maturity in her fashion. She has tendency not to wear clothes but when she wear them she looks amazing.

I am glad about her new hair style; it reminds me of the days when her career began with hits like “Pon da Replay”in 2005 and her first number 1 single “S.O.S” . It is sleek and the ombre is just perfect. Her new hairstyle allows us to appreciate her beauty because at times with her bad decisions and questionable behaviour  we forget that Robyn Fenty is a beautiful girl. I will always believe that her pixie cut in 2008 will always be her best hair cut.

Rihanna the designerI am excited about her collaboration with the British clothing line “River Island”  and thought the clothes looked beautiful at this Saturday’s fashion show at London Fashion Week. Similar to her other looks Rihanna looked effortless as usual in her little black dress.

It has taken five years but Rihanna’s beautiful custom made Alia , at the 2013 Grammys, dress showed me and the rest of the fashion world that she has returned to the fashion brilliance and I can’t wait to see what she puts on next on the red carpet or in the streets.

Growing Pains 101

While on Twitter I came across a tweet that made me think. The tweet was “Growing pains are necessary but boy do they hurt” and I agree with this statement a 100%. Life is weird in my opinion and as much advice that you are given by people older than you about growing up; it really is relative. The way I have transitioned from teenager to adult has been very hard and confusing. The most confusing time is when I went to university in 2010. I felt like a fish out of water. But I must admit the hardest growing pain has been the fact that in life you cannot control everything from falling in love or when someone leaves your life.

In my mother tongue of Shona they say growing up never ends and neither does learning. Next week I begin my post graduate studies and yes I am scared but it is what it is. In this, there  is a new round of growing pains and yes they may hurt but I am sure they will be necessary.

These my 2 cents of the week

A Fashionable Angel: Miranda Kerr

I must admit I was not aware who Miranda Kerr was until she married Orlando Bloom but this model has captured my fashion heart with her incredible street style. I am not really a fan of models and do not see the point of them but goodness Miranda Kerr is such a cool model. She is poised, gorgeous and has a girl-next-door sex appeal.

Image

What I love about her street style is that she this amazing ability of mixing high fashion and casual looks and looking very laidback. I think it is awesome that she will one day be wearing short shorts and then the next day will be wearing the most beautiful dresses with killer heels. With Miranda Kerr you are able to see that fashion is a mood thing and I am like that when I dress. It is unreasonable for us to look like a million bucks. Her street style is fabulous but so is her red carpet style. I was absolutely amazed at how beautiful she looked at the Golden Globes. She was just amazing in that red Zuhair Murad dress. Just a side note he is one of my favourite designers.

Image

I am not the one to usually gush but I am crazy, stupid, love with Miranda Kerr as a fashionista. I can see why she was chosen to be the new face of Mango.
